What to get for a new kitten?

I want to get a kitten for my son and myself. I never had cats before. I will be buying from a private party. How often do they need shots? What supplies should I have right away besides food? How do you litter train them?????? HELP!

When you buy your kitten set up an appointment with your vet to get all of its shot right away and also check into getting your kitten de-wormed as most kittens are born with them. If the private party you are buying from has already done this, make sure you get the paperwork stating so. So, when you go into the vets to eventually fix your cat (or if you must go for other reasons before this) they will have documentation that other shots were already done. Also, vets recommend that the kitten is fixed between the ages of 6months to a year. And usually your vet will recommend giving your cats certain shots every year or so.

Some supplies you might like to buy are the obvious food and water dish, some toys, a scratch post, and a cat bed if you REALLY want to spoil your cat. When it comes to the litter box I like to get one that has a guard around the edges so it doesn’t get all over my bathroom floor when the cover their messes. Some cats don’t like the full cover litter boxes, so that’s why I get the ones with the guards. Also, get a pooper scooper!

To litter train your kitten it is best that as soon as you get home you will want to bring your kitten to the location of the litter box and put them in it immediately. Stay with them for a little bit and keep on putting them in there even if they don’t go, just so they can really get your point. Then, usually they will walk around and look at everything and just get used to their surroundings. If you notice your kitten isn’t going to the bathroom in the box, but instead everywhere else, then it is a good idea to keep them in the bathroom with the litter box for a few days (I had this problem and kept mind in there for abt. 3 days), along with a toy or two and their food and water dish. This way they will have a smaller space and wont be so stressed out about the new environment. Let your kitten out for a good while when you are home and just keep an eye on them if you do have to end up going through this step. If you notice them starting to squat, pick them up immediately and bring them to the litter box. Cats in general aren’t messy animals, so they can usually learn very quickly about the litter box. Also, if you do notice your kitten is going to the bathroom in the box it wouldn’t be a bad thing to give him/her a treat..that way he/she knows she was doing good!

Flynnville Train $14.98 After one of their self-released albums made its way into the hands of Toby Keith, he signed Flynnville Train to his Show Dog logo for their major-label debut. It’s easy to see why he was impressed. The Train’s sound combines the best features of Southern boogie, redneck rock and honky tonk country into a loud, high energy presentation that jumps out of the speakers and knocks you flat with its rowdy, in-yer-face attitude. The only drawback is the sometimes formulaic material, supplied by the usual Nashville suspects. Since the band made its rep on the strength of their original material, it would have been nice to see more of their own work on the disc, since the two cuts they did land — “High on the Mountain” and “Truck Stop in the Sky” — show so much promise. “High on the Mountain” is a bluesy stomp with an inspirational message, exuberant vocals, and a squalling guitar solo by Brent Flynn. “Truck Stop in the Sky” is a road song that may well prove to be a classic, a chooglin’ rocker about life and death on the road, again featuring Brent’s slashing guitar. Most of the album is composed of rockers that make up for their pedestrian lyrics with the band’s muscular performance. “Last Good Time” kicks the album off with a boisterous salute to drinkin’, smokin’, dancin’, and loud music, and introduces Brent ‘s slashing guitar work and his brother Brian’s snarling vocals. “Tequila Sheila” is another potential party anthem, a rocker in praise of mendacious women and the pleasures of booze. “Honky Tonk Jail” is a boisterous cousin to “Jailhouse Rock” that compares the honky tonk life to a life sentence, but the band’s enthusiasm belies the song’s cautionary message. The Donner Party $35 On April 16, 1846, a group of 33 settlers, their goods, and animals began moving west by wagon train from Springfield, Illinois, to California. After stopping in St. Louis, the Donner Party followed the California Trail until they reached Little Sandy River, in what is now Wyoming, where they camped alongside other groups of travelers. Now numbering 87, the settlers took a shortcut called Hastings Cutoff, but found themselves stranded in the Sierra Nevada Mountains during a snowstorm that blocked the trail through what is now called Donner Pass. What started out as an adventurous trek to a new land turned into a nightmare as the days turned into months, their food and supplies dwindled, and several members of the party died.
