anyone have any ideas for some healthy foods for a Kids Birthday Party?

i am having my son’s 6th birthday next week and i am trying think of some healthy alternatives to the normal party food such as chips and lollies. any one have any ideas?

Hello I can understand your viewpoint. I have done Birthday Parties with healthy to good food only and usually there is nothing left. You can do alternative things without them looking to different. I always make my own sausage rolls. I buy low fat sausages which are salt reduced and put them into fat reduced puff pastry. Put the sausauges in the pastry uncooked then roll them up seal with water and cook until pastry is golden and risen. Taste great and don’t look any different. Here is a sandwich which will go down a treat. Get some wholemeal bread lighter in colour than normal, really flattened it with a rolling pin then cut off crusts. Spread Philly light on the bread then put grated carrot and cheese in a column then roll them up. You can seal the end with more Philly and cut into bite sized pieces. There are many fillings you can use. Pop corn can be done in the microwave in a paper bag don’t overfill it and fold the bag over several times to seal it or you could use a pop corn machine. Healthy dips are good and instead of vegetables(which some kids hate) try using Grassini its the Italian bread sticks about $2.30 from any supermarket you can break them in two. Water crackers or rice crackers instead of Arnotts shapes go well with cheese. You can even buy little packets of mini bread usually in the specialty area of th supermarket. Try poppadoms and prawn crackers they can both be cooked in the microwave. Poppadoms no more than can be placed on your glass platter, same with prawn crackers don’t over crowd them. Then usually a minute on high depending on the strength or your microwave and hey presto no oil needed. You can actually buy fairly healthy chicken nuggets if you stick to the heart foundation ones you should be right. Cook them on a raised rack like a cake rack so any excess oil drips off. Fruits should be those that can be picked up easily like grapes, strawberries, mandarins not anything too messy or things which will discolour. You don’t need too many foods as children aren’t as fussy as adults. I hope this has helped and I wish your son a very happy birthday and there is nothing wrong with wanting the best for him.
