What is in store for mankind throughout the 21st century?
We are now 10 years into the 21st century. What is in store for the rest 90 years until the year 2100? What do you think the world is going to experience through out the 21st century? Of course most of us are going to perish 3/4th into the century, but I’m just curious to hear everyone’s thoughts on what the world is going to experience, go through, and what it will be like for our children and grandchildren for year 2100 and onward.
The increased flooding of coastal areas.

Public Theology for the 21st Century $70 “‘… a very significant moment in the history of public theology over the past fifty years or so, taking stock of and renewing a sense of social vision in theology ‘ Raymond Plant, King’s College, London and the House of Lords This major book is a unique stocktaking of the issues facing public theology at the beginning of the 21st century, combining retrospect and prospect. The contributors are leading Christian theologians and social theorists from Europe, North and South America, Africa and Asia. Part one surveys the legacy of the 20th century and asks what should be carried over into the third millennium. There are authoritative essays on political and public theology in Germany, Argentina, South Africa and Britain. In part two, the contested legacy of modernity itself is considered, revisiting such ideas as freedom, toleration, human rights, pluralism, environmental stewardship and God in history. Part three addresses globalization, offering a range of critical interpretations of this key concept for public theology in the 21st century. The final part offers theological and ethical insight into some of the most pressing public issues of the new century – medical ethics, punishment and forgiveness, inequality, social exclusion and political participation. Throughout, the authors engage with the public and theological concerns that have shaped the life and work of Duncan B. Forrester, to whom this book is dedicated. Public Theology for the 21st Century is a landmark publication for all those concerned about theology’s contribution to public debate in the churches, the academy and society. William F. Storrar is Professor of Christian Ethics and Practical Theology, and Director of the Centre for Theology and Public Issues, University of Edinburgh. Andrew R. Morton is an Honorary Fellow in the School of Divinity, and a former Associate Director of the Centre for Theology and Public Issues, University of Edinburgh.” |

Caste, Colonialism and Counter-Modernity $39.95 One prevalent socio-cultural structure that is peculiar to South Asia is caste, which is broadly understood in socio-anthropological terms as an institution of ranked, hereditary and occupational groups. In caste today we see a continuation of a non-modern life-form on the subcontinent that one and a half centuries of colonial rule and the forces of global capitalist modernity that such rule brought in its wake have been unable to wipe out, much to the despair of social scientists, political activists and policy makers. This book discusses the enigmatic persistence of caste in the lives of South Asians as they step into the 21st century. It begins by undertaking an investigation of the limits of sociological and secular historical analysis of the caste system in South Asia and then goes on to argue for ways of describing life-forms generated by caste on the subcontinent that supplement the accounts of caste in the social sciences. By focusing on the literary, oral, visual and spiritual practices of one particular group of ex-untouchables in western India called “Mahars”, the author suggests that one can understand caste not as an essence that is responsible for South Asia’s backwardness, but as a constellation of variegated practices that are in a constant state of flux and cannot be completely encapsulated within a narrative of nation-building, modernization and development. |

Comforted of God $5.95 This collection of Scripture texts, prose and poetry shines the light of God’s Word into the darkness of disappointment, illness and bereavement. To those in such circumstances it provides encouragement, strength, illumination, understanding and comfort. Over thirty thousand copies were produced during the first half of the twentieth century, bringing relief to many. Over one hundred years have passed since the first edition was compiled, and yet the basic problems of the human condition remain essentially unchanged; and God’s Word has as much to say to those facing the darkest of personal situations in the 21st Century as it ever did. Its message of hope still lifts the spirit and draws the stressed, the discouraged and the sorrowful to the Saviour, who is the Prince of Peace. The compiler, Algernon James Pollock (1864-1957), was the eldest son born to a Christian banker and his wife in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. At the age of eleven he made a profession of faith in Christ. Early in life he was introduced to leading figures amongst the Brethren (John Nelson Darby was entertained in the home when he was about fifteen). He followed his father into banking, but his true calling was to share the treasure he had found in heaven, and he left to become a full-time evangelist. He was an indefatigable apologist from the pulpit and in print wherever he saw the Christian faith under attack. He wrote several books, but he is probably best known for over fifty pamphlets containing critiques of deviations from Bible-based, Christ-centred Christianity. |

Journalism, Science and Society $138 Analyzing the role of journalists in science communication, this book presents a perspective on how this is going to evolve in the 21st century. The book takes three distinct perspectives on this interesting subject. Firstly, science journalists reflect on their “operating rules” (science news values and news making routines). Secondly, a brief history of science journalism puts things into context, characterizing the changing output of science writing in newspapers over time. Finally, the book invites several international journalists or communication scholars to comment on these observations thereby opening the global perspective. This unique project will interest a range of readers including science communication students, media studies scholars, professionals working in science communication and journalists. |

#1 Smooth Jazz Radio Hits $18.98 The title is self-explanatory: guitarist Chuck Loeb has scored no less than a dozen number one hits on radio charts for smooth jazz. He’s also played on literally hundreds of records, making him the Tommy Tedesco of the genre. None of that matters very much to his fans, and this collection is clearly assembled for them. While fans of smooth jazz (and what is in the 21st century now called “contemporary jazz”) will have enjoyed Loeb’s music and may even be familiar with it, it’s not so much the individual tracks that matter as the consistent sound and vibe. Early on, Loeb embraced the feel of smooth jazz and became one of its great ambassadors, displaying a knack for writing and producing music custom-tailored to the radio format that was so successful in the 1980s and 1990s (and continues in mutated form in the 2000s). His name has become synonymous with the genre, and the most memorable of his hits have their own timeless quality: “Blue Kiss,” “Sarao,” “Just Us,” and of course, “The Music Inside.” Other tracks will be not be especially well known by name but are easily identifiable by sound, including “Tropical,” “High Five,”and “Cruzin’ South.” The slippery, silky backbeat funk Loeb employs as a canvas in his tunes comes across as immediately welcoming and accessible; his guitar lines are always fluid; and his soloing is cut into short, tight pockets. Many of his collaborators are well known in the world of jazz at large as well: John Pattitucci, Jason Miles, Jim Beard, Will Lee, and Nestor Torres are all here, as well as many more. This set is a welcome addition to Loeb’s catalog and will likely deeply satisfy any listener who enjoys smooth jazz. ~ Thom Jurek, Rovi |

”George Bush doesn’t care about black people”: Hip hop, public discourse and black politics in the early 21st century. $49.99 Recently, more scholars are examining hip hop as a powerful cultural, communicative force, yet hip hop’s political orientation goes unnoticed. This study highlights the politics found in hip hop culture and in rap music since 2000 by exploring hip hop as a social movement. This study utilizes a critical, cultural approach by applying ideological case study and textual analyses methods. Song lyrics, activist efforts and black politics prove the political orientation of hip hop culture, which revealed that rap music in general is limited by capitalistic, hegemonic restraints juxtaposed to rappers serving as the legitimate voice of the marginalized and as victims of the cultural production of negative stereotypes. The study concludes that hip hop as a social movement has revolutionary potential but has not reached its zenith as a movement because of its multiple shortcomings, including: (a) problematic issues of contradiction such as materialism, capitalism and the politics of racism and classism, (b) a lack of a movement-specific ideology shared by minority groups, and (c) the lack of a single leader unrelated to entertainment as the representative “voice” of marginalized citizens to advocate for national policy issues and national reform. |

”The Lord of the Rings” and the emerging generation: A study of the message and medium. J. R. R. Tolkien and Peter Jackson. $49.99 Throughout the ages, the communication of Christian truth has been the domain of preachers and poets, musicians and theologians, authors and dramatists, each seeking means by which to engage others in the truth that has captivated and transformed their lives. From direct proposition to allegorical representation, such effective communicators as Dwight L. Moody and C. S. Lewis have confronted their culture with Christian truth in response to Jesus’ command to “go and make disciples”. J. R. R. Tolkien employed myth as his vehicle of expression, creating The Lord of the Rings (LOTR) with no overt religious symbol or act, yet weaving his Roman Catholic Christian worldview into the very fabric of his characters and their journeys. Tolkien described his work as a “fundamentally religious and Catholic work, unconsciously at first, but consciously in the revision, with religious element absorbed into the story.”1 He discovered that myth allows the reader opportunity to explore the realities of life within the safety of an imagined world and its relationship.;Tolkien’s fantasy of Middle Earth and her people has captured the heart and mind of generations since its publication in 1954, offering glimpses into the truth that defined Tolkien’s life and worldview. This 20th century work found new expression and an even broader audience in Peter Jackson’s 21st century cinematic interpretation LOTR. Together, Tolkien’s myth and Jackson’s cinematic portrayal of that myth have successfully captured the attention of the Emerging generation. A study of both narrative and cinematic mediums along with the clarity of the message conveyed will allow an opportunity to consider the larger question of what medium and what message impacts the emerging post-modern generation. This dissertation will explore the effectiveness of Tolkien’s myth and Jackson’s cinematic interpretation of that myth in communicating truth, seeking insights into effective means of the communication of Christian truth |

…And They Have Escaped the Weight of Darkness $16.98 They must be putting something in the water over there in Iceland that makes musicians work in unexpected ways. Their biggest pop and rock exports — Bj? rk and Sig? r Ros, respectively — have borne very little relation to what the rest of the world thinks of as pop and rock, so why should their most promising young neo-classical composer be any different? At an age when most young men are still trying to decide between grad school and the night shift at Denny’s, Olafur Arnalds has already made a name for himself as a musical maverick who skirts the edges of the classical, rock, electronic, and avant-garde worlds with enthusiastic ease, a Nico Muhly with a higher tolerance for cold weather, if you will. On his second full-length release, Arnalds moves further away from electronics to embrace a more acoustically oriented approach centered on piano and strings. Electronics do play a supporting role — they’re simply used to enhance the atmosphere here and there, but in the main, Arnalds is creating 21st century chamber music here, as the piano makes simple, elegant statements whose harmonic possibilities are further fleshed out by the strings. And Arnalds may be a modernist in terms of pushing stylistic boundaries, but he still has some old-school, downright romantic notions about melodic movement — you won’t find any polytonality or serial music among these tracks. Arnalds prefers instead to repurpose old-school harmonic conventions in a new context, offering the listener a readily accessible emotional connection but still breaking new ground. And on the few strategic spots in the album where Arnalds drops in drums and/or electric guitar and repetitive motifs, the effect is not dissimilar to the headier moments of the aforementioned Sig? r Ros, or perhaps early-? 70s Pink Floyd at their most ethereal, showing the rock crowd that they too have a point of entry into this music. ~ J. Allen, Rovi |

…And the Angel with Television Eyes $1.99 “…And the Angel with Television Eyes” explores the region where fantasy meets reality. This surreal journey of self-discovery and transformation at once questions the nature of our world, and redefines it in the context of 21st century pop culture and technology. It takes a writer of John Shirley’s talent and audacity to bring together elements as disparate as Shakespeare, Nietzsche, on-line role playing games, soap operas, and classic mythology – binding them together, creating a heady melange on, above, and below the streets of Manhattan.”…And the Angel with Television Eyes” follows the life of Max Whitman, a successful, yet unfulfilled soap opera actor, as his life begins to fall apart. Strange, murderous events suck Max into a maelstrom that leaves him questioning first his own sanity, then the nature of reality. As he is dragged further into a battle between mythic forces that threaten to destroy him and his world, Max must first try and understand the nature of these forces and then find the strength to overcome them. At once a rousing adventure, and a bitingly insightful metaphor for our times, .And the Angel with Television Eyes is sure to keep you at the edge of your seat. |

1 and 2 Thessalonians $28.99 By studying1st and2nd Thessalonians, we get to read some of Paul”s first scriptural statements about the glories of Christ. We also notice Paul”s great compassion and love toward this young Thessalonian church, which may have been only six months old when Paul is writing First Thessalonians. Despite being young, she is doing generally well. Although it is true that there are some difficulties; most of these are caused by those outside the church, but some are caused by those inside the church. All of these aspects have direct and indirect meaning for us today in the 21st century. Of course, all books in the Bible and all parts of all biblical books are important and are worthy of our study because ultimately the Triune God wrote them for the original readers and for us. |

100 Greatest Science Inventions of All Time $12.4 This ready reference presents fascinating facts about 100 amazing inventions, a panoramic overview of the history of science, and a collection of engaging reads.Inventions are the stuff of dreams, quickly gaining widespread use, becoming central to culture, and ultimately changing our lives. They teach us a great deal about creativity and scientific principles, and, of course, the power of invention is of utmost importance in today’s world of technology and innovation. Focusing on the 100 most significant scientific inventions of all time, this ready reference presents fascinating facts about amazing inventions, a panoramic overview of the history of science, an introduction to some of the most important inventors in history, and a collection of engaging reads. Each entry, arranged chronologically according to when the invention was made, contains information on what the invention is, who the inventor was, and how the invention was created. It also provides the historical context of the invention, its significance today, and information on resources for further reading/research. More than two millennia’s worth of inventions are covered, ranging from the practical (clock, eyeglasses) to the everyday (measuring spoons, ball point pen), the life-saving (antiseptic, chemotherapy), and the mind-boggling (the number zero, cloning). By covering inventions throughout history, rather than just the 20th and 21st centuries, and presenting information comprehensible to young readers, this book fills a gap in the literature. It is a wonderful resource for student research and reports; can easily be used for read-alouds or as an introduction to teaching units on inventions; as well as a solid general reference on inventors and inventions.
